Immerse yourself in a route laden with history and tradition by experiencing first hand what the Emperor lived through.
Declared a Festivity of Tourist Interest in Extremadura, the Emperor Charles V Route is celebrated every year on February. This fiesta recalls the last route taken by the Emperor Charles V on 3 February 1557 from the castle of the Counts of Oropesa in Jarandilla de la Vera, passing through Aldeanueva de la Vera, until arriving at the Monastery of Yuste.
This tradition recreates the customs of the time through an extensive programme of activities and the luxurious period costumes of the participants. Every year the festivity kicks off in Jarandilla de la Vera Auditorium with a breakfast with chocolate for all those hikers doing the route.
Along the 10 km walk you can taste different traditional appetisers and enjoy the theatrical shows staged at each one of the three stops.
Music, popular dances and workshops on ancient calligraphy, are just some of the activities this festivity offers locals and visitors alike, not to mention the traditional crafts and Renaissance markets ideal for a leisurely stroll. There's always something new to be discovered.
Ideal for all ages and catering for ever increasing numbers each year, this is the perfect occasion to spend some quality family time and take part in a history and tradition filled celebration.
