Garrovillas de Alconétar appeared when a village from the Early Middle Ages — Garrovillas — gave refuge to the inhabitants of another village — Alconétar — when the latter was destroyed by Moors and Christians. It became famous due to the Bridge of Mantible, which the Romans are said to have built over the Vía de la Plata (Silver Way).

If you visit this land, which once inspired the famous Calderón de la Barca, don't miss its seven points of heritage: its Plaza de la Constitución, considered a Monument of National Historic and Artistic Interest; the churches of San Pedro Apóstol, Santa María de la Consolación and El Santuario Nuestra Señora de Altagracia; the convents of San Antonio de Padua and of the Hieronymite Nuns; and the Palace of the Counts of Alba de Liste.

Its "corral de las comedias" (theatrical courtyard) could also be an interesting tour, as it was built in Golden Age style, based on the corral de comedias in Almagro.

You won't be indifferent to a stroll around the old Jewish quarter either, called "Los Castillejos" by its inhabitants, with its narrow and winding streets.

If you have the chance to get to know this town during one of its festivities or fairs, you will be able to experience first-hand the culture and tradition of this singular Cáceres town.
