  • In the province of Badajoz lies El Cijara Regional Nature Reserve, a vast protected nature area covering 25,000 hectares, most of which is public land.

El Cijara Regional Nature Reserve forms part of the Protected Natural Areas of Extremadura Network and, in 1996, was declared a nature reserve for the protection of game.

One of the area's main attractions is small and big game hunting. Five species of big game inhabit the natural space: red deer, fallow deer, roe deer, mouflon and wild boar. There also many species of small game, such as partridge, rabbit, hare, woodcock and common wood pigeon.

It is also one of the areas of Spain with the greatest diversity of protected species, including mongooses, wildcats, badgers, genets, polecats, otters, weasels, Bonelli's eagles, black vultures and black storks.

The flora and fauna that inhabit this vast natural space make it a paradise for visitors, who can immerse themselves within a truly unique and spectacular setting. You can also enjoy many outdoor activities here, such as hiking and mushroom picking.
